Welcome to the New Hanover County Register of Deeds
The Register of Deeds serves as the custodian and manager for real estate-related documents as well as vital records and DD-214s of the county. The elected registrar strives to hold these duties to the utmost standards along with giving you the quality and professional public service in a friendly atmosphere. Morghan Getty Collins, Register of Deeds
Morghan Getty Collins was unanimously appointed by the board of County Commissioners to fill the vacancy left by Tammy Piver who retired on January 1, 2023. Collins was sworn into office on February 6, 2023.
A native of Cumberland, Maryland, Collins came to Wilmington to attend UNCW. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science and later went on to earn her master’s in biomedical science from Marshall University School of Medicine.
A wife and mother of two, Collins has previous experience in the private sector working in finance, marketing, and clinical research.
“I am excited to step into this new role and have the opportunity to serve the citizens of New Hanover County as Register of Deeds,” Collins said. “The Register of Deeds staff is truly remarkable, and I am honored to join a team that is dedicated to what they do.”

No, North Carolina law prohibits the Register of Deeds from giving legal advice or referrals.
- Can anyone obtain information on file at the Register of Deeds office?

Yes, all records filed in the Register of Deeds office are public records. Anyone can view and obtain a copy of a public document in the office.
- Can I add a fraud alert to my records?

In the event a document is recorded in your name, you will get an email with a copy of the document at no cost to you.
- Can I come in and fill out a form to register my business name?

Yes, as a courtesy to our customers, we have gone to the Secretary of States website and printed the form needed to register a business name.
- Can you tell me how much a piece of property sold for?

The Register of Deeds can only provide the amount of the excise tax stamp affixed to the deed at the time it was recorded.
